3 Tips for Better Breathing

Improving your breathing is a surefire pathway to feeling better in mind and body.

Try these 3 Yoga Therapeutics Techniques that lead to Better Breathing.

 
 

 1. Relax your abdomen. Easier breathing requires the tissues of your abdomen to be elastic rather than rigid. This Self-Myofascial Release technique with a rolled blanket under your belly releases and softens your diaphragm and low back.

 
 

2. Release your Lats. Tense muscles on the side of your body make it difficult to expand your ribs laterally as you inhale. To stretch, drap your ribs over a bolster (side-lying) and place the opposite hand on your head. Gently roll forward and backward for a few moments on each side.

 
 

3. Soften your Scalenes. These accessory breathing muscles on the side of the neck can get over-involved in breathing. To stretch, lean your ear toward your shoulder and tuck your chin to your chest.
